Competitive quizzing is a structured knowledge sport: teams or individuals answer researched questions in timed rounds, usually starting with a written or digital preliminary round that filters a large field, then qualifying rounds, and a stage final played on lock-out buzzers in front of an audience.

Starting eight to ten weeks out is safest for an inter-college competition — registration and outreach always take longer than a committee budgets for.
